Series

Not just individual exemplars

Up until the 18th century, collections traditionally featured only individual exemplars or a pair of any species. Since then, large series of specimens have been collected so that we can observe differences within a species or distinguish them from another. A series can also result when working techniques and processes are documented. This may be a gathering of sketches, notes or images, and the content is thus made available to others. Other series are created with the goal of demonstrating diversity or being able to present objects at as many venues as possible.
