Legendary
Classic, mythical, legendaryA unicorn, nautilus or sawfish “saw” – these and other enigmatic objects were an indispensable part of cabinets of curiosities and private collections of the 16th and 17th century. Many items were misinterpreted at first: often they were thought to have magic powers or some connection to the divine. Such speculation was an effort to create order and make sense of the world in the context of prevailing knowledge of the time. To this day, certain objects are still surrounded by myths and legends, some of which even have a kernel of truth!
