Prologue

Our Collections

It is the scientific collections that distinguish a museum from a mere exhibition centre. The Natural History Museum Karlsruhe is one of the largest research museums in Germany - its collections house several million objects! Botany, mycology, zoology, entomology, palaeontology and geology: each department is characterised not only by its unique collection, but also by special preparation methods and research focuses. In the exhibition, we take a look behind the scenes and provide insights into the collections and the work of the staff in preparation and research.
